Center Programs - Infants
Infants (6 weeks - 12 months)
At NCDC, we believe that the home is the primary source of a child’s nurturing environment. We are committed to following the routine set in place by the parents of the child. Before the child’s first day, the lead caregiver and parent will meet to develop a written plan to ensure that all physical and emotional needs are met to the parent's expectations.
Everything the infant experiences offers an opportunity to establish trust, to make discoveries, to practice motor skills or to engage in developing language. The infant room is sectioned into 4 main areas, the sleeping area, the play area, the changing area and the eating area.
The sleeping area is a quiet space that allows for some quiet time when the children are ready to nap. Each child has an individual crib and the parents provide blankets and “snuggly's” to help mirror their sleeping space at home. All infants are laid on their backs to sleep, as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics. Quiet music is also played in this area.
The eating area is equipped with high chairs that adjust in their height and their tilt. Whether your child is working on starting new foods (which are always tried first at home) or feeding themselves, this area is set-up to accommodate these various skills. All bottle fed infants are held until they can truly support the bottle themselves.
Our play area is separate from all others for safety as well as for organization purposes. Infants need constant supervision so offering a confined area is a way to achieve that need. Equipment and materials offered for the infants promote all developmental skills of infants, a pull-up mirror and push toys are available in the main space to assist infants in their gross motor development and toys such as rattles and nesting blocks are available to help in eye hand coordination development.
Throughout the day you will observe the caregivers talking to the child. They engage in conversations with the child while changing, feeding and playing! The caregivers maintain a cozy, warm environment that places the infants at ease. Caregivers carefully watch the infants, making sure their environment is both healthy and stimulating. All the infants are encouraged to explore their environment. Our educated, trained staff use their specialized knowledge of child development to expand on these learning opportunities.
