Center Programs - "Wrap Around Kindergarten"
Before & After School Kindergarten
NCDC offers transportation to and from the Oxford Area School District for children in morning kindergarten only. The Oxford Area School District determines which session a student attends based on the child’s address. If your child is in PM kindergarten, their assignment can be modified by using NCDC as their main address for drop off.
The primary focus of our kindergarten program is to offer a structured environment for the children while they are outside of school. We can supplement the skills that they are working on in school, but it is not our focus. We believe that the children are in a structured learning environment all morning long and to double that for the afternoon would be too overwhelming for a child who is 5 years old.
Once the children arrive at the center, they have lunch (provided from the parents) and then have a recess time. After that, they have a 30 minute quiet time to rest. At the conclusion of this, they have a structured afternoon program, which is primarily recreational. The program is packed full of literacy based activities. There is a story time and an activity to go along with the story, such as an art project or a cooking activity. They play games and have learning centers open for free exploration as well.
The kindergarten students are given another snack at 3:30 and the children are then given free play for the remainder of the afternoon, which includes another outside recess time.
