Policies & Procedures
Center Holidays: The center is closed for the following holidays; New Years Day, Presidents Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and the day following Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. If the holiday falls on a weekend day, the center does not make up the day. Full tuition is charged for weeks in which these holidays occur.
Inclement Weather: NCDC does not follow the same closing schedule as local schools for inclement weather. You may call the center to receive a recorded message or watch Channel 10 NBC news. Information will be available on both as to whether or not there will be a delay or cancellation of child care. We understand the needs of working parents and will attempt to stay open if possible! In the event that the center does close, tuition will not be prorated.
Sick Policy: NCDC has a very strict policy when dealing with illnesses. While we understand that parents have very important work schedules, we also are concerned with the well being of all the children in the center. We also feel if a child is sick, they should be in the most comfortable environment possible... their home. Children who are mildly ill may come to the center under the discretions of the director or assistant director. If a child shows symptoms of a communicable disease during the program day, the child will be isolated and a parent will be contacted immediately. Parents are responsible for making arrangements for picking up the child as soon as possible.
Symptoms of Communicable Disease
- A fever of 100 degrees or greater
- A skin rash that has not been identified by a physician
- Diarrhea and / or vomiting 2 or more times in a day
- Evidence of head lice or parasite
- Severe Cough
- Rapid or Difficult Breathing
- Yellowish skin or eyes
- Red eyes with discharge
- Severe pain or discomfort
- Blood or pus from ear, skin, urine or stool
- Loss of appetite
- Discolored nasal discharge
- Unusual fatigue or lethargy
Children must be symptom free for 24 hours or be accompanied by a doctor's note before returning to care.
Biting Policy: Biting is often one of the greatest challenges in a child care center. Young children are not yet verbal enough to "use their words" and are still extremely impulsive. They are also in an oral stage where they put everything in their mouths therefore when they are frustrated; their mouths are the main focus of their frustration. While we know that some biting is normal (although not acceptable) children who tend to be more extreme with the biting may be recommended to a smaller environment where the biting can be more closely monitored. This would only be recommended after the center has attempted to teach the child a more appropriate way to deal with situations through shadowing (closely monitoring the child) and firm redirection and no improvement has been made.
