Safety Information
At Nottingham Country Day Care, safety is priority. The center is equipped with a number of safety features to ensure this.
Door Security - All doors in the center are kept locked at all times. All parents and visitors enter the center through the front vestibule. Parents are equipped with an individualized family password to enter into the security key pad to allow quick entry. Visitor must buzz in and be greeted by a staff member. While parents are expected to sign their child in and out of the center, this security system allows the center director to view and generate reports of daily enrollment based on which parent has entered through the security system.
Classroom Cameras - Each classroom is equipped with a security camera. The information is streamlined into a center system and saved for a certain period of time. While the director observes the classrooms in person daily, this is used as a back-up to monitor classroom activity.
Classroom Safety - Part of the orientation for NCDC staff is training in safety procedures within the classroom. This includes training in health and sanitation as well. Knowing how to manage a safe classroom is as important as classroom programming and behavior management.
Playground Safety - Our playground is set-up with two different areas, an infant / toddler play area and a preschool / school-age play area. The gross motor needs and capabilities vary greatly between the two groups. In regards to safety, the equipment available in each of the areas is tailored to the developmental adeptness of each individual age group. The playground is completely fenced, and staff consistently monitor the children during their outside time.
Fire Safety - Each classroom has been fitted with pull stations for fire emergencies. The system is directly linked to a central station which dispatches emergency personnel in the event of an emergency. The children have emergency drills monthly to prepare them for an emergency evacuation in such an occurrence.
Emergency Plan - The center director has developed an emergency plan for all possible scenarios, such as fire, inclement weather, and power outages. This includes information such as how and where children evacuate and methods for contacting parents. A copy of this plan is provided to each parent that has a child enrolled. The local emergency management agency has a copy of this as well.
